Students will start to take courses today for the new semester at all public schools and international schools in Shenzhen, while most universities will start later in March.
According to the Shenzhen Municipal Education Bureau, all public schools in the city start Monday. Students and teachers returned to schools yesterday to register and prepare for the new semester.
To ensure all the schools start safely, the education bureaus of all districts and new areas have contacted the traffic police department in Shenzhen to conduct safety inspections on school buses, according to the municipal bureau.

The traffic police carried out a two-day inspection operation Friday and Saturday to check all school buses, preventing buses with issues from carrying students on the road.
Besides safety issues concerning school buses, the municipal education bureau also issued a notice for all schools to conduct thorough screening examinations to rectify hidden dangers inside and outside of schools.
All public schools are required to make the second week of the new semester “Safety Education Week.” During the week, schools and teachers will be responsible for providing safety education to students through lectures, videos and drills, among other things.

Many international schools, such as Shen Wai International School, Shekou International School and Basis International School Shenzhen, will also start the new semester today, according to the calenders shown on the schools’ portals.
College students will have a longer holiday compared to their younger counterparts. Shenzhen University will open registration for students Wednesday, while the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen and the Southern University of Science and Technology will commence in March.
