Guangzhou Night 2017 shows a traditional and modern city to the world

On the evening of Dec. 13, guests of the 2017 Guangzhou International Documentary Film Festival (GZDOC 2017) including producers, directors and media professionals from home and abroad went on a ‘Guangzhou Night’ tour to experience both the traditional and the modern.

On the afternoon of the day, guests set out from the main venue of GZDOC 2017, Guangzhou Library, to visit Haixinsha Island, where they enjoyed Cantonese delicacies accompanied by an incredible panorama of the CBD in the evening.

At nightfall, attendees boarded the Cantonese Opera cruise ‘Red Boat’, where they watched a traditional and innovative Cantonese Opera ‘Chuan Shuo’ and a Qi Pao fashion show. After the performances, many of the guests tried on the costumes and learned some Cantonese Opera moves from the performers.

For 14 years, Guangzhou Night, has welcomed numerous foreign guests. Now it is one of the highlights of the festival every year, showing guests from home and overseas a traditional, open, inclusive, innovative and beautiful Guangzhou.

Hosted by the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television of China, GZDOC is organized by the People’s Government of Guangdong Province and the Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television of Guangdong, and undertaken by Guangzhou Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, TV, Film, Press and Publication.

After 15 years’ development, GZDOC has grown into the only national documentary festival incorporating investment, financing and trade. It has helped numerous Chinese documentaries to go global and led to a lot of partnerships being forged at home and abroad.

This year, a total of 4,239 documentaries from 113 countries and regions have been entered into the GZDOC 2017, a record high both in terms of the number of documentary entries and participating countries and regions. And 39 of the documentaries have been selected for the final of Golden Kapok Award Competition.
