Setting its goal to be an international hub city, Guangzhou increasingly attracts foreigners around the world to settle in. Apart from job opportunities, the city holds various activities for overseas talents to blend in the community. And the Guangzhou Friendship Games is one of them.
The 10th Guangzhou Friendship Game was held in Tianhe Sports Center on October 28 and 29. This year, the event was attended by representatives from the municipal government, local institutes as well as 13 consulate generals in Guangzhou, members of foreign chambers and international students.
The 1118 local and foreign guests participated in popular sports, including basketball, futsal, tennis, badminton, table tennis and bowling.

“The friendship game provides expats working and living in Guangzhou a platform to communicate and increase mutual understanding”, said Tu Hongzhe, sub-inspector of Guangzhou Foreign Affairs Office, “I think the event is a great opportunity to deepen friendship among people with different backgrounds and enjoy the multicultural environment of Guangzhou.”
According to Guangzhou Foreign Affair Office, the numbers of foreigners coming to and living in Guangzhou are increasing steadily in recent years, most of them come from U.S.A, Japan and Korea. And foreigners with permanent residency are mostly international students, officers of foreign enterprises and their relatives, showing the city’s attractiveness to high-end talents.
Guangzhou Friendship Game has been organized since 1998.
