Recently, Guangdong Energy Bureau and Guangdong Power Grid issued a proposal of orderly power consumption and power saving to ensure the safe supply of electricity. In response to this, Guangzhou, Shenzhen both make their moves such as to suspend light shows during the National Day holiday.

Guangzhou has decided to shorten the time of nightscape lighting since September 28.

Specifically, all nightscape lighting has been forbidden on Monday to Thursday, and Sunday alike. And on Friday, Saturday, the time of lighting have been shortened, and the scope limited.

1. The lighting will be off an hour earlier.

Nightscape lighting will be on in summer and autumn (April 1 to September 30) from 19:30 to 21:30, and in spring and winter (October 1 to March 31), from 19:00 to 21:30.

2. The adjusted scope includes: Yanjiang Road Building 24, Pazhou West Area, Zhujiang New Town CBD (including Huacheng Square and Haixinsha), 10 bridges across the Pearl River, 700 buildings along the river and 20 kilometers' stretch of waterfront, Haizhu Square and Shamian.

During the National Day holiday (October 1 to 7), all light shows will be suspended, and units in the above-mentioned areas may abide by the proposed time.

Shenzhen, on the other hand, has suspended large-scale light shows during the National Day holiday.

A single light show is "not that power-consuming", but large-scale light shows will be another story, said Xu Haiwen, the official in charge.

But to create a festive vide during the festival, the nightscape lighting will still be kept every evening, only that its schedule will be changed from 18:30 - 21:30, to 19:30 - 21: 30, which will save approximately 23000 kilowatt-hours of electricity per day.

Apart from holiday lighting, daily lighting will also be adjusted. According to Xu Haiwen, tree lighting along the roads will be turned off, and the lighting on bridges has now been limited to Friday and Saturday only.
