At least six people were killed and 40 others injured when a train derailed and two cars filled with gas tanks exploded in northern Italy on Tuesday (June 30), news reports said.
The ANSA news agency said at least six people were killed in the explosion, quoting local officials.
The blast occurred in the town of Viareggio early in the morning when a train carrying gas-filled tank cars was moving close to the station of the coastal city, the agency reported.
Two buildings close to the railway station were badly damaged, it said.
State television said there were "several dead and numerous injured," and police and fire fighters rushed to the scene.
