Canadian health officials on Monday announced they are probing a number of cases of suspected swine flu, after six cases were confirmed during the weekend.

The cases, which popped up in the eastern Ontario province, will be identified in the next 24 to 48 hours, according to Dr. Donald Low, medical director of Ontario's public health laboratories.

Federal Health Minister Leona Aglukkaq on Sunday confirmed four cases of swine flu in the eastern province of Nova Scotia and two in the western province of British Columbia. She warned more cases would come.

While all of the six confirmed cases have mild symptoms, David Butler-Jones, the chief public health officer for the federal government, on Monday warned an outbreak across the country and the chances of more severe illness or deaths.
