U.S. Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice will visit China from June 29 to 30.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao made the announcement here Thursday (June 26)聽at the regular press conference.
Rice will meet with senior Chinese leaders and hold talks with her counterpart Yang Jiechi during the visit. The two countries will exchange views on the Sino-U.S. relations and major international and regional issues of common concern, Liu said.
The spokesman didn't confirm whether Rice would visit earthquake-hit Sichuan Province, saying detailed schedule is still in discussion.
"The visit is an important high-level contact between China and the United States of this year, and Its main aim is to further implement the consensus reached by leaders of the two countries and strengthen dialogue, mutual trust and cooperation," Liu said.
He added that a sound and stable development of the Sino-U.S. relationship is in the common interest of the two countries and will be conducive to regional and world peace, stability and prosperity.
