Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries has killed over 100 poultry in Ponhea Kreak district in Kampong Cham province, where a 13-year-old girl died of bird flu on April 5, local media said on Saturday.

The mass killing was conducted within a radius of three km around the death location of the girl, while an investigation was being carried out within a radius of 10 km in order to contain the possible spread of the disease, the Commercial Daily reported.

The action was taken, after the government found some poultry in the area was H5N1-positive, it quoted officials as saying.

So far, no other human being in the district were found H5N1-positive, it added.

Earlier this month, official resources confirmed that the girl's death was an isolated case.

The girl was the seventh victim of the epidemic for the kingdom. She was known to have prepared and eaten a sick chicken from near her house before her death.

Kampong Cham borders Vietnam, where H5N1 has been re-surging in recent months.
