The Indonesian government was criticized on Tuesday that it did not make alarm before the earthquake and tsunami occurred on Monday, according to a statement made by vice president Jusuf Kalla after a cabinet meeting on the disaster.
In facing with the criticism of no working of the tsunami early warning system, the Indonesia government said that it had not set up tsunami early warning system in the southern sea off Java island, the statement said.
"Indonesia only had three of the devices set up off Sumatra island", Kalla said, adding "we still do not have, (device) in the Indian Ocean in Southern part of Java sea like in Sumatra waters."
During the cabinet meeting, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono ordered to boost the tsunami warning system in the country, according to Kalla.
"President instructed to update all the system, increase more device," he said, adding "we need more investment in the device."
Indonesia has already cooperated with the United States, Germany and Japan in establishing the system.
The government planned to set up the device more to Java sea then to eastern part of the archipelago country, said Kalla.
Many Indonesian people accused that early warning system was not working during the quake and tsunami that killed nearly 400 people.
