Born in an “international” family, Wang Chen speaks three languages including Chinese, English, and German, but according to his mother Esther Haubensack, he is not very good at any language at the moment and often mixes the different languages together.

Despite some language gaffs, Wang’s mother believes that extreme educational methods are no good for kids and she hopes her children could learn everything naturally. That is why she now home schools her son by teaching him one subject for a month or two before moving onto another subject.

Wang listens to English stories and often visits local museums, parks and libraries with his mother to learn more about the subject he is learning.

According to Haubensack, at the very beginning of homeschooling, Wang struggled with learning but now he communicates with other family members, accepts their supervision, and tries hard to learn by himself.

Chimelong Paradise, Chimelong Safari Park and the Guangdong Museum, are among Wang’s favorite learning haunts. He also attends fencing classes and plays soccer on Saturdays, goes to church on Sundays, plays Frisbee within the compound with family members and takes part in TV shows along with his mother.

Wang says he wants to become a policeman or a football player in the future, ideas which are all supported by his mother who hopes that her son will learn to focus on the subjects he is learning and stick to whatever he decides to do.
