The 107th Canton Fair, an important economic barometer of China's foreign trade, concluded its Phase I on April 19. The Phase I, which highlights machinery and electronic products, received 100,073 foreign buyers, with an eight percent increase over last year.

During the five-day show, Guangdong delegations reported deals ranging from home appliances to electronics to chemical products, with a contracted value increase of 20 percent over the previous fair.

The increase in international trade orders signals a recovery of foreign trade, said Li Rongcan, director of the MOFCOM Policy Research Department. Li warned that the recovery has not been stable due to increased prices in raw materials, trade protectionism and international pressure for RMB appreciation. The second phase will be held from April 23 to 27, featuring commodities, gifts and house decoration goods. More than 6,800 enterprises are expected to attend the fair.
