| Guangdong's trade mission, led by secretary of Guangdong CPC Committee Wang Yang, finished its visit in Malaysia, the third stop of their ASEAN tour. Guangdong and Malaysia signed deals worth 1.9 billion USD in China (Guangdong)-Malaysia economic and trade seminar held in Kuala Lumpur on September 12.
In the seminar, Wang Yang briefed on Guangdong and Malaysia's expanded cooperation in the recent years, pointing out that Malaysia had become Guangdong's biggest trade partner in ASEAN. In 2007, the trade between Guangdong and Malaysia reached 14.48 billion USD, an increase of 28 percent over 2006 and accounting for nearly 40 percent of the total trade between the two countries.
Wang added that Guangdong province offers vast opportunities in trade, tourism, farming and investment. Guangdong will expand its import from Malaysia on value-added high technology industries, especially electronics, information technology, bio-medicine, software and animation. Wang hoped the bilateral trade will double to reach 29 billion USD in 2010.
Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia and International Trade and Industry Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin also presented the seminar.
The two sides also agreed to establish a mechanism through Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI), which would serve as a platform to discuss prospects of expanding Guangdong-Malaysia and Malaysia-China bilateral relations.
