Latest Updated at 2008-August-1 14:34:50

On July 29th, a grand ceremony was held by the 16th Asian Games Organizing Committee (AGOC) at the Dongfang Hotel for the selection of the 2010 Asian Games songs. At the ceremony letters of appointment were presented to members of the Organizing Committee. The event was attended by 140 people, including Vice Mayor Xu Ruisheng, Gu Shiyang, deputy secretary general of the municipal government, AGOC officials, experts from the provincial and municipal Music Societies, officials from the Museum of Art, and the Asian Games Songs Collection Organizing Committee members.

The event marked the start of the songs selection for the Asian Games. A judging committee, composed of famous musicians and experts, has been set up by the Organizing Committee. After an assessment of the 300 collected songs, 30 songs would be selected. Then through an appreciation held at the end of August, the final 10 songs would be nominated and recorded. In October, the Asian Games Song Awards would be held and the second session for Asian Games song collection would begin.

The first session of song collection began in June 2007 and was ended on June 30th of this year. Original works were collected from certain musicians, the public and the Internet respectively.

According to statistics, a total of more than 300 works were received from music masters and music institutions, as well as amateur writers and grass-roots groups.
