Guangdong, reputed as a major manufacturing hub in South China, has refreshed its image by the growing service sector, such as information technology, logistics, real estate and exhibition.
Last year, the proportion of the primary industry, secondary industry and tertiary industry has adjusted to 6.1: 51.7: 42.2, from the 8.4: 45.7: 45.9 in 2001. The service industry together with the manufacturing industry served as an engine for the province's overall economic growth.
Guangdong's GDP reached 2.59 trillion RMB last year, and the service sector yielded over 1 trillion RMB last year and become an energetic sector pushing Guangdong's development forward. Tencent QQ, an example of Guangdong's fast -growing service industry, earned 2.8 billion RMB last year with a register of 580 million members.
Meanwhile, the province's manufacturing sector is upgraded by adjusting the structure and using new technology.
The province's annual production of oil and ethylene rose to 33.5 million ton and 2 million ton in 2006 from the previous 23.2 million ton and 0.53 million ton in 2002. The province could produce 780,000 vehicles in 2006, but only 120,000 in 2002. The hi-tech production increased from 46.9 billion RMB in 2002 to 1.5548 trillion in 2006.
