Two torch designs, entitled "The Tide" and "Exploit", have been shortlisted for the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Games. The Guangzhou Asian Games Organising Committee (GAGOC) held a press conference on Thursday (Sep 17), briefing reporters on their features and concepts.
"The Tide" incorporates elements of water and fire, embodying harmony and passion respectively; "Exploit", which has been designed with the Games' symbols and core patterns, shows the image of the Pearl River flowing into the sea, highlighting spirits of the Lingnan culture such as progressiveness, innovation and inclusiveness, said He Jiqing, Director of the Ceremonies &Cultural Events Department of GAGOC.

The torch is an important symbol of Asian Games, embodying its vision and the host city's image. Since launching the solicitation of torch design proposals in January 2009, GAGOC has engaged a number of expert teams experienced in design and development in the project. After rounds of selection, "The Tide" and "Exploit" have been shortlisted for the Games Torch.
The Official Website of the 16th Asian Games will organize a poll, in which people can vote for their favourite torch design. GAGOC will make a final decision between the two, taking into account the poll result and opinions of experts.
Everyone participating in the poll will have the opportunity to win a prize.
Mr He encouraged people across China to get involved in the torch selection and support the Games.
