Beijing's municipal health bureau reported a confirmed A/H1N1 influenza case late Sunday (May 24), the ninth in the Chinese mainland.

A final test conducted by the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention late Sunday showed the man was positive for the A/H1N1 virus.

Earlier on Sunday, the country's Health Ministry confirmed that a two-year-old girl in eastern Fujian Province, who returned from the United States with her family via Hong Kong, tested positive for the A/H1N1 flu. The baby, in a stable condition, is the eighth confirmed case in the mainland.

The latest Beijing patient went to Toronto, Canada on March 24 in a visit to his relatives and returned to Beijing at 4 p.m. on May 21 on Flight AC031.

The man showed symptoms of coughing and ache in the throat Friday evening. He rode a taxi to the Chaoyang Hospital the next morning and was put under quarantine there. Tests conducted by the Beijing Disease Control and Prevention Center on his saliva Saturday showed the patient was positive for A/H1N1.

The Chinese mainland has nine confirmed A/H1N1 cases - five in Beijing, one in Shandong, one in Guangdong, one in Fujian, one in Sichuan. Four of them have recovered.

Also on Sunday, eastern Shanghai and Zhejiang, each reported a suspected case.
