The First Session of 10th Guangdong Provincial Committee of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) opens in Guangzhou on 3:00 p.m. today (Jan.15). The conference will last 6 days and due to end on the morning of January 20.
Chen Shaoji, Chairman of the 9th CPPCC Guangdong Committee, delivered a keynote report on the work of the province's top advisory body in the past year. New members of the 10th standing committee including the chairman, vice chairman and the secretary-general will be elected in the coming days.

The political consultants will also attend the annual session of the 11th Guangdong Provincial People's Congress (NPC), which is to kick off on Jan.17, discussing the report on the government work 2007.
Some 18 overseas Chinese deputies from 15 countries and 10 farmer delegates are invited to attend this conference.
The conference this year will continue to focus on local people鈥檚 livelihood. Environment, education medical care, housing price, transportation and energy are expected to be hot topics.
