Guangdong Governor Huang Huahua announced major achievements at the press conference after the close-door conference of GDICC 2007 plenary yesterday (Nov 15).
鈥淭he successful holding of the consultative conference helped us draw a clear picture of the development trend of innovation in our province, and boost our confidence and accelerate the process in this respect.鈥 said Guangdong Governor Huang Huahua at the press conference after the close-door conference of GDICC 2007 plenary yesterday (Nov 15).
After one-day-long conference with the advisors on the theme of 鈥淏uild an Innovative Guangdong to Transform the Economic Development Pattern鈥, Governor Huang said in the press conference that Guangdong has the confident to realise the transformation of its economic development pattern and to become a key manufacturing base and a major R&D and innovation base.
Governor Huang said two major achievements were made in the Closed-door Conference:
Firstly, the government was inspired.
The advisors' insights and their institutes鈥 successful experience of innovation in different industries and regions combined with their deep understanding of Guangdong鈥檚 development and became the most precious present they offered to Guangdong.
Their suggestion in the closed-door conference included: to support and improve small and medium-sized enterprises鈥 innovative capacity; to strengthen the protection of intellectual property rights; to develop vocational education and train innovative talents; to actively develop renewable energy such as wind power and solar power; to promote the introduction of technology and enhance international cooperation in R&D; and to encourage the financial institutes to expand investment in innovation projects.
Secondly, the conference strengthened the friendship and cooperation.
The government have learnt a lot from the experience of innovation in the advisors鈥 companies. At the same time, The government also briefed them on Guangdong鈥檚 exploration, practice and determination of improving innovation and promoting the transformation of economic development pattern. The exchange have deepened the mutual understanding and strengthen the friendship.
The building of a new and innovative Guangdong will not only benefit the scientific development in Guangdong, but also bring new and enormous business opportunities to all the foreign investor including the advisors. Many advisors expressed their wishes to increase economic cooperation with Guangdong, particularly in innovation. Some of the innovative programmes with their participation have already started.
This event is another important conference on 鈥渋nnovation鈥 following the Conference on Improving the Capacity of Independence and Innovation of Guangdong in September 2005 and the Conference on Independence and Innovation in September 2006, according to Governor Huang.
The governor also said relevant departments will further assess and study the advisors鈥 鈥済olden ideas鈥.
Guangdong Governor Huang Huahua: Guangdong's GDP to exceed Taiwan this year
In the first 10 months this year, Guangdong maintained its steady economic development with its GDP up 14.7%, and by the end of this year, the provincial GDP is expected to reach 390 billion USD, outdoing Taiwan. Guangdong Governor Huang Huahua said yesterday.
He also said that the economic growth of Guangdong outpaced four Asian Tigers, Singapore, South Korea, Hong Kong and Taiwan, in the past 29 years, with an average annual growth of 13.7%. And in the recent 15 years, the economic growth speed reached 14.4% per year. The economy of Guangdong has exceeded Singapore in 1998 and Hong Kong in 2003.
Edmund Tse: 鈥淲e are confident for the financial development of Guangdong鈥
The press conference reveals the logistics service base of Life Insurance becomes the first foreign funded institution to locate in the Guangdong financial hi-tech service center.
鈥淚t is because that the hi-tech service center is near Hong Kong and the flourishing resources of human talents around the region.鈥 said Mr. Edmund Tse, Senior Vice Chairman of Life Insurance (AIG), saying he and his group is confident for the financial development of Guangdong, and have interests in long-term investment in Guangdong.
