International Consultative Conference on the Future Economic Development of Guangdong Province 2007 will be officially launched tomorrow (15). And the foreign advisors have already arrived in Guangzhou in advance.

Yesterday at White Swan Hotel, Deputy Secretary of Guangdong Provincial Party Committee governor Huang Huahua met five advisors respectively, including Mr. Peter Leupp, Executive Vice President of ABB Ltd.; Prof. Dr. Hans-Joerg Bullinger, President of Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft; Mr. Edmund Tse, Senior Vice Chairman of American International Group Inc.; Mr. Richard R. Goodmanson, Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer of Dupont; and Prof. Patrizio Bianchi, President of the University of Ferrara, Italy. All of the five advisors have participated in Consultative Conferences for at least twice till now.Lightly and heatedly, Governor Huang Huahua first extended sincere thanks to all the “old friends” of Guangdong for their advices and supports for Guangdong’s social and economic development through actions like expanding investment in and cooperation with Guangdong. Besides, Governor Huang gave a review on the adoption of suggestions provided by the advisors before, such as construction of innovative network in 2003 and saving energy and reducing emissions through optimizing logistic system in 2005 provided by Prof. Dr. Hans-Joerg Bullinger. At present, the China-Germany Manufacture Logistics Technology Center co-established by Logistics Research Institute of Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft and Guangdong Industrial Research Institute has already launched several projects, exerting sound effects on Guangdong’s economic development.

With the theme of “Build an Innovative Guangdong to Transform the Economic Development Pattern”, the advisors have made sufficient preparation and proposed reports to governor with lots of feasible suggestions in it. All the golden ideas have been appreciated sincerely by Governor Huang. It is said that in Prof. Dr. Hans-Joerg Bullinger’s report, he introduced experiences of Germany and other developed countries in terms of the construction of innovative mechanism and the methods of governments and enterprises to evaluate the innovation capacity. Also, Mr. Richard R. Goodmanson stated in his report that Guangdong could further develop the use of renewable energy like wind and solar energy. He also suggested that many international leaders in the field of renewable technology should be invited to this Consultative Conference Mechanism. Governor Huang said that all the high-qualified reports from advisors have been read thoroughly, and later on, they will be further digested and adopted.

“Introducing wisdoms but also attracting capital”. Through this platform, the enterprises and institutions where the advisors work have already started multi-dimensions, multi-fields and deep cooperation with Guangdong province and therefore, become significant powers for Guangdong to promote international competitiveness. During the meeting, Governor Huang also extended wishes that those enterprises and institutions could enlarge investment in Guangdong, displaying themselves in the process of saving energy while reducing emissions, improving self-innovation capacity and sustainable development of Guangdong province. While the advisors demonstrated that their enterprises and institutions have been benefited a lot from the fast social and economic development of Guangdong. And it was also their sincere wish to enhance investment and cooperation in Guangdong in order to fully support further development of the province.

Yesterday morning, Vice Executive Governor Huang Longyun also held a working meeting with Executive Vice President of ABB Ltd Mr. Peter Leupp.

Other people attending the meeting included Secretary of Guangdong Provincial Government Mr. Xu Shangwu, and heads from Development and Reform Commission, Economic and Trade Commission, Department of Foreign Trade and Economic Coorperation, Foreign Affairs Office, Science and Technology Commission of Guangdong Province.
