China said on Thursday that it appreciated Chad adherence on one-China policy and opposition to "Taiwan's Independence."

"The Chadian government adheres to one-China policy and opposes 'Taiwan's Independence', and supports China's stance on the Taiwan issue, and we appreciate for it," said Chinese President Hu Jintao.

When holding talks with Chadian President Idriss Deby Itno, Hu hailed Sino-Chad relations since the two countries resumed the diplomatic ties in August of 2006.

China and Chad had established formal diplomatic links in 1972 but China severed diplomatic relations with Chad in 1997 when the country resumed so called "diplomatic ties" with Taiwan.

According to a joint communique signed by the two countries when they resumed diplomatic ties, Chad recognized there is only one China in the world and Taiwan is an inalienable part of the Chinese territory.

Hu put forward a four-point proposal to improve the cooperation with Chad. The proposal included promoting political trust through increasing high-level contact; enhancing economic and trade cooperation; advancing personnel exchanges; and strengthening the multilateral cooperation to safeguard common interest.

Deby agreed with Hu's proposal, saying that Chad would work with China to complete the cooperative projects and improve the cooperation between the two countries.

He said Chad and China had furthered the cooperation and improved the mutual understanding and trust since they resumed diplomatic ties, and this ensured the two countries have a healthy and effective cooperation in the future. He also praised China's constructive role in Darfur issue.

After talks, the two heads of states witnessed the signing of several cooperative documents.

Deby arrived here Thursday morning for a four-day state visit to China.

Chad is located in the central Africa with a territory of 1.28 million square kilometer and a population of 8.6 million.聽
