Chinese news organizations have been called on to publicize harmonious culture and promote sound social moral atmosphere to contribute to the building of a "harmonious socialist society".

"News organizations should foster a sound ideological and public opinion environment for building a harmonious socialist society," said Li Changchun, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, Tuesday at a meeting of the All-China Journalists' Association.

Chinese leaders Hu Jintao, Wen Jiabao, Zeng Qinghong and Li Changchun met the participants and took a group photo with them prior to the meeting. Hu asked the association to further play its role of connecting the government and the press.

Li Changchun called on news organizations to study and publicize the spirit of the Sixth Plenum of the CPC Central Committee and the speech of Hu Jintao at the plenum to unify the thoughts of the whole Party and whole nation and pool the wisdom and strength of various sides for the implementation of arrangements set at the plenum.

According to the association, more than 700,000 people work in the press field in China.
