The Guangdong Department of Civil Affairs announced yesterday (Jun 28th) that during June, Guangdong experienced its largest flood in 100 years, which caused tremendous destruction.
Through 5:00 p.m. on Jun 27th, 70 Guangdong residents have been killed by the flood and nearly 500,000 people were relocated with about 3.9 million RMB in total property damage.
Nearly 4.5 million people in Guangdong were affected by the flood. Currently, the government is organizing a recovery project to help reclaim lost lives. Positive signs of relief include the normal operation of the Longchuan to Huizhou section of the Beijing-Kowloon railway, and in addition, all sections of Xijiang River are now open to navigation.
Guangdong's Governor, Huang Huahua said the government will strive to rebuild destroyed and damaged homes before Mid-autumn Day for victims who lost their homes. Moreover, the government is also calling for public donations to help in the aid effort.
