Chinese President Hu Jintao together with leaders from over 80 Asian and African countries have attended activities commemorating the golden jubilee of the Bandung Conference.
Participants began the commemoration with an historic walk from the Savoy Homann Hotel to the Merdeka Building.
Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, in a speech at the ceremony, said Asian and African countries will always remember and implement the "Bandung spirit", which advocates freedom, peace and equality.
Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo also spoke at the ceremony.
Then, as co-hosts, Susilo and South African President Thabo Mbeki signed the Declaration of the Asian-African New Strategic Partnership.
The first Asian-African summit meeting, the Bandung Conference, was held in 1955, which was the first international conference held by Asian and African countries and gave birth to the non-aligned movement.
