Performances to celebrate the First China Youth Culture Week
Imaging a youngster's fiesta in Shenzhen, the nation's most young dynamic city, with hordes of young people from all over the country and a carnival of parties and sightseeing trips. Along with this, a gala of performances and workshops of dance, music and drama of diverse cultures were all on the menu to treat young friends from around the nation.
With a theme of Youth China, the First China Youth Culture Week opened with an extravaganza at the Phoenix Square of the China Folk Culture Villages on the evening of August 7. Focusing on the mutual exchange of culture and understanding, the opening event attracted more than 4,000 Chinese youth from home and abroad.
This is a typical international cultural festival for young people. A meeting point where hundreds of young talented individuals gather to have fun and also to exhibit their unique regional culture and lifestyle.
The idea of launching a youth culture week evolved out of the need to create young minds that transcend regions and ethnicities. More than 10 million young people from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong and Macao SARs signed up for the event. A selection "Young Idol in My Mind" was launched around the nation in mid July, garnering much attention before the official event began. The selection is also regarded as a move in enhancing charisma building among today's Chinese youngsters.
