Ten bridges, including two of Guangzhou, say Yajisha Bridge and Luoxi Bridge, are listed among China's Top Ten Bridges in a national bridge academic symposium held at May 21st in Shangsha, capital of Hunan province.
Completed in June 2000, Yajisha Bridge is 1084-meter in length, with a span length of main bridge reaching 360 metres, the widest among concrete-and-steel-tubular arch bridges in the world.
Prestressed concrete decked with a length of 1916.04 metres, the Luoxi Bridge of Guangzhou ranked the sixth in the world and the first in Asian among its peers by the time of its comletion in the year of 1988, in terms of the main bridge span.
All bridges built within Chinese territory during the year of 1949 and 2003 are entitled to apply for the prize, and the winner's list is resulted from the votings of the bidge experts nationwide, including two academician with Chinese Acacemy of Engineering.
According to Professor Xiao Rucheng, the bridge expert with China's Tongji University, the event will serve as a strong boost to the bridge construction of China.
