The Guangzhou New Baiyun International Airport passed a flight test Tuesday morning, the Yangcheng Evening News reported.

A Boeing 777 from China Southern Airlines was used for the test flight, which had been designed to test the runway, passenger boarding and fire alarm systems.

The plane took off from the existing Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport at 6 a.m., and successfully landed at the new airport 115 minutes later. Experts from the China Aviation Administration were on board to analyze the test results, the report said.

"Everything has gone very well. Although the final results are yet to be analyzed, we can predict the success of the whole process," an airline spokesman said.

A series of further tests will be conducted before the new airport opens June 28, the report said.

The existing Baiyun Airport is expected to be closed upon the opening of the new airport.
