Guangzhou authorities Saturday (Mar. 20) unveiled the logo for the city's bid to host the 2010 Asian Games.

The principle, slogan and standards for hosting the Asiad were also disclosed before the city officially presents its bid to the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) at the end of the month.

They were selected from 1,233 entries submitted by more than 600 contestants.

The winning logo resembles Guangzhou in cursive hand Chinese, and 2010 at the same time. It also represents various Olympic sports in dynamic, artistic styles, said designers Chen Wenshu and Chen Yingdong of the Shengshi Jiaoyang International Advertising Co.

The green stroke at the center of the logo symbolizes the Pearl River that flows through the city.

The principle of the 2010 Asiad is "Cooperation, Competition and Growth." The slogan and standards are "Moving Asia, Touching the World," and "Peaceful Asian Games, Green Asian Games and Civilized Asian Games."

Meanwhile, the bid committee has completed the Chinese version for presentation to the OCA next Wednesday. Experts are now reviewing the English version.

The 30-minute film for the bid, which is almost finished shooting, will be distributed to TV stations and OCA members. A 10 or 15-minute abstract will be played at the final vote for the 2010 Asiad host city in Doha this June.
