The first Pan-Delta Capital Cities' Mayors' Conference will be held in Guangzhou, capital of South China's Guangdong Province on Sept. 16 to coincide with the opening of the 2004 Guangzhou Fair.
The two-day forum would concentrate on cooperation in economic coordination and resources distribution, layout of information industry, urban emergency handling and other issues, sources with the organizing committee said.
The fair is expected to become an annual event and the capital cities of Guangdong, Fujian, Jiangxi, Hunan, Hainan, Sichuan, Yunnan, Guizhou provinces and Guangxi autonomous region will stage the forum in rotation.
It is an important part of the framework of the Pan-Pearl River Delta (PPRD) Regional Cooperation and Development Forum, which is designated to foster regional cooperation in the Pan Pearl River Delta and promote the implementation of CEPA.
Leading scientists in the economic and information industry fields in China and officials from related ministries will attend the forum.
The GDP of the nine capitals was 1,018 billion yuan (US$124 billion) in 2003.
