Latest Updated by 2004-05-12 09:42:28

President Hu Jintao

President Hu Jintao has called for joint efforts by the whole Communist Party of China (CPC) and the whole people to well educate juveniles on ideology and ethics, in order to foster builders and successors of the socialist cause with China's own characteristics.

Hu made this call at the national working conference on strengthening and improving ideological and ethic work for juveniles, which was convened in Beijing on May 10-11 attended by Chinese top leaders.

To further strengthen and improve ideological and ethic work for juveniles is a major decision made by the central authorities, to ensure the long-term stability and safety of the Party and the nation, said the president, who is also general secretary of the CPC Central Committee.

The work should be guided with Marxism-Leninism, Mao Zedong Thought, Deng Xiaoping Theory, and the important thought of the "Three Represents" which says the CPC always represents the most advanced productivity and culture and the fundamental interests of the overwhelming majority of the Chinese people.

The president called China's 367 million population, referring to those under 18, the hope of the Party, the state, and the Chinese nationality. He pledged to make them firmly determined to love the motherland and dedicate themselves to the prosperity, richness and mightiness of the motherland.

Present at the meeting were members of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau Wu Bangguo, Jia Qinglin, Zeng Qinghong, Huang Ju, Wu Guanzheng, Li Changchun and Luo Gan.
