Official invitation letters to be presented at one-year countdown

The 16th Asian Games, part of the worldwide Olympic movement and governed by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) will begin sending official invitation letters to National Olympic Teams throughout Asia to attend and participate in the 16th Asian Games.

  The Guangzhou Asian Games Organizing Committee (GAGOC) holds a press conference on Monday (Oct 12).

Co-hosted by the OCA, General Administration of Sport of China, People's Government of Guangdong Province, People's Government of Guangzhou Municipality and GAGOC, the Games' One-year Countdown Ceremony will be held at Guangzhou Gymnasium from 19:30 to 21:30 on November 12 - the one-year anniversary countdown to the 16th Asian Games - featuring the theme "Friendly Invitation".

The Asian Games are the second largest sports event in the world after the Summer Olympic Games.

OCA President Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah will present invitation letters to delegates of the 45 member countries and regions that comprise the OCA.

The ceremony will be broadcasted live on China Central Television (CCTV), Guangdong TV, Guangzhou TV and available on the Internet.

In addition, Guangzhou Mayor Zhang Guangning will present invitation letters to more than 600 delegates from over 80 countries attending the 2009 United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) World Council Meetings and Guangzhou International Sister Cities Conference.
