As a long-standing friend of China, I am very pleased to convey my best wishes for success to the organisers of the 16th Asian Games in Guangzhou.

I am convinced that the Organising Committee will do its utmost, as is traditional in China, to secure the success of this edition of the Asian Games, for the benefit of all the athletes and spectators alike.
