20 newly wedded couples from GZ to promote Asian Games in France

A launch ceremony for group wedding was held in Beiijing Road, Yuexiu District of Guangzhou on Wednesday (Sep 9), where Head of Yuexiu District Wu Yanjun granted marriage certificates to 20 newly-registered couples, Nanfang Metropolis Dailyreported.

  The newly wedded couple receives the marriage certificate from Head of Yuexiu District of Guangzhou, ready for their 10-day journey to France.

The day of September 9, 2009 has been considered as an unprecedented lucky day to register marriages across the country, since the auspicious triple nine in the date ("nine" implicating eternality and meaning long-lasting love) is supposed to draw good fortune in China. Thousands of couples swarmed into registrars, making a national wedding peak.

In Guangzhou, among 138 pairs of applicants, 20 couples have been chosen to serve as messengers of culture between France and China. During their 10-day tour to France, they will be bearing the responsibility to promote Lingnan culture and spread the spirit of the forthcoming 16thAsian Games to be held Guangzhounext year.

During the launch ceremony, Deputy Consul General of France Consulate in Guangzhouwas also present to make wedding wishes to all the newly wedded couples.
