As a leading municipal project, a cluster of forest parks, with the South China Botanical Garden and the Guangdong Tree Park as the core areas surrounded by Longyandong Forest Park, Fenghuang Mountain Forest Park and Huolu Mountain Forest Park, is to be built.

Named Longdong Forest Park Community, it consists of five major forests and mountains in Tianhe District, covering about 3,000 hectares and featuring over 13,000 species of plants. Besides China's largest south subtropical botanical garden, other cultural sites or attractions featuring beautiful scenery are also located in this area, including Longdong Reservoir, neolithic sites (No 1 Village in Guangzhou) and the tomb and residence of Hu Hanming, a famous democrat in the early 20th century.

In order to ensure that the project can be completed and open by the start of the 2010 Asian Games, the municipal government will establish a temporary team, which is directly under the leadership of major municipal government officials, to take charge of construction of Longdong Forest Park Community.
