Half Taiwan-funded enterprises in Guangzhou confident of weathering financial crisis

Up to now, the international financial crisis has made 15 Taiwan-funded enterprises in Guangzhou stop production, 5 go bankruptcy and several others run away, as learned from the Guangzhou Taiwan Affairs Office.

In general, Taiwan-funded companies in the city have being giving mixed performances: domestic oriented companies perform better than export-oriented ones; large operations do better than small ones; the situation in the first half this year shows a positive turnaround compared with that of the second half of 2008; the second quarter outperforms the first quarter; Taiwanese operations in Guangzhou is better-off than those in eastern coastal cities.

The over 2600 Taiwan-funded companies in Guangzhou have invested more than 12.3 billion USD, with contractual investments totaling 8.1 billion USD, and employ more than 400,000 people in the city.
