Guangzhou police dogs to ensure Asian Games security

The police dog team of the Bureau of Public Security of Guangzhou Municipality is currently under training for the 16th Asian Games, during which it will detect odours associated with explosives at competition and training venues, hospitals, hotels as well as venues for ceremonies to ensure a safe Asian Games.

Reporters from a number of Chinese media visited the training base on Thursday. Built in 2004, it covers an area of five hectares and is divided into six zones, including an office building, a training building, a dog hospital, a work kennel zone, a breeding kennel zone and a police dog training ground.

There are more than 100 dogs in the training base, belonging to various breeds such as the German Shepherd Dog, Chinese Kunming Wolfdog, Belgian Malinois Dog, Beagle Dog, English Springer Spaniel and Labrador Retriever.

The Bureau of Public Security of Guangzhou Municipality launched explosive detection dog training in 1999. Last year, police dogs from Guangzhou played an important part in the security of the Beijing Olympics, laying a solid foundation for their work in 2010.
