The Sports Committee of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) held a
meeting on Monday, attended by Mr Wei Jizhong, Chairman of the OCA
Sports Committee, Mr Husain Al-Musallam, Director General of the
OCA, and an eight-member delegation of the Guangzhou Asian Games
Organising Committee (GAGOC), led by Mr Gu Shiyang, Deputy
Secretary General of GAGOC.
Mr Gu presented a report on preparations for the 16th Asian
Games in areas such as the Games schedule, sports and disciplines,
entry policies and the appointment of technical delegates.
The OCA Sports Committee Meeting reviewed and approved the
schedule and sport disciplines for the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Games.
GAGOC had spent nearly a year in compiling the Games schedule,
taking into account opinions from technical delegates of different
sports and the Guangzhou Asian Games Broadcasting Co., Ltd.
The Guangzhou Asian Games will feature 42 sports, including 28
Olympic sports and 14 non-Olympic sports. At the meeting, the OCA
and GAGOC had agreed on disciplines for the Games. Decisions had
also been made on the starting time and deadlines for sport entry
with participant numbers and names respectively.
The sports of the Guangzhou Asian Games are related to 45
International and Asian Federations, 43 of which have appointed
technical delegates for the Games. So far, 38 technical delegates
have visited GAGOC and signed memorandums regarding issues such as
the competition, venue construction and information technology.
