Installation of the acoustic systems in the new Guangzhou Opera House is scheduled to be completed in October as it comes into operation.

The Guangzhou Opera House is expected to be a world-class one in terms of functions, the outline and feasibility. The outline of the opera house was designed by London-based Zaha Hadid, and the acoustic design is by Arthur Harold Marshall. Marshall, was awarded the Wallace Clement Sabine Medal by the Acoustical Society of America for his contributions to the field of architectural acoustics, and design of concert halls, and tested by architectural acoustics laboratory of South China University of Technology.

So far, acoustics systems, video supervision systems and internal communications systems are being installed in the theatre with 1,800 seats as well as the multifunctional hall, with 400 seats, which is scheduled to be completed this October.

For the first time, power-driven tune facilities have been introduced to meet demands of the various types of performances anticipated and sound mixers are planned as well. Too, the other two major opera houses in China, the National Centre for the Performing Arts and the Shanghai Grand Theatre, have do not have such high-tech installations nor such advanced acoustics facilities. The Guangzhou Opera House is to be leading local, or even national, art center for classic operas, ballets and other high-level shows to be performed.
