The Administration of Quality and Technology Supervision of the Guangzhou Municipality recently formulated the technical specifications of the Marking of Safe Food Allergen Signage on Asian Games Food.
The specifications made it clear that all the ingredients in the foods offered during Guangzhou Asian Games that might trigger allergic reactions must be marked in a striking and exact manner.
To facilitate practical operations, the specifications must also list the foods that might cause allergic reactions. These include glutelin grains, shellfish seashells, eggs, fish, milk products and so on. Foods that one cannot tell for sure if the above said allergens may be included, shall be marked both in Chinese and English, "May contain XXX", or "Cannot guarantee non inclusion of XXX".
Li Hongbing, Director of the Administration of Quality and Technology Supervision of the Guangzhou Municipality, said that this practice was imposed during the Beijing Olympic Games. This move is designed to ensure that athletes and other personnel may eat at ease.
