Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) on Monday articulated its solidarity to 16th Asian Games Guangzhou2010 amid a formal program organized in Nepali capital Kathmandu.

At a visa stamping ceremony on Monday morning, NOC General Secretary Jeevanram Shrestha from Nepalese side made commitment of participating in the 16th Asian Games which is open in Guangzhou on November 12, 2010.

Zeng Weiyu, Vice Director of the Games Communication and Promotion Department of Guangzhou Asian Games Organizing Committee (GAGOC) together with Shrestha put the stamp in official document.

As a part of the promotion campaign for 16th Asian Games Guangzhou, the "Road of Asia", 14-member Chinese delegation arrived Nepal on Friday to invite Nepal to participate in the Asian Games.

The delegation went to naturally beautiful city Pokhara in Kaski district, some 200 km west of capital Kathmandu and collect water from the famous Fewa Lake.

Addressing the ceremony, Zeng said, the vision of the GAGOC teamed up with "Road of Asia" campaign focusing on the cities along the ancient Silk Road on land and at sea and will be aimed at spreading friendship sharing, happiness and promoting the 16th Asian Games as well as its host city.

"The campaign will cover all 45 member NOCS. It will further boost the influences of the Asian Games and the awareness of the host city with a diverse range of sports, cultural exchange, ad economic and trade promotion events," Zeng added.

Nepal is among the 24th nation that the team has visited during its promotional campaign "Road of Asia". "We have already visited 23 countries before this," said Zeng addressing the ceremony on Monday.

The delegation is set to fly to the next stop, Sri Lanka, later Monday, according to organizers.

Speaking at the program, NOC General Secretary Shrestha said that Nepal had bagged so many medals in Taekwondo in 1990 Games held in Beijing. "This year we are hoping to win more medals not only in Taekwondo but also in other discipline of the games," Shrestha added.

However, Executive Secretary of NOC told Xinhua that the selection of the delegation team has not been geared up till now. "The selection of the participants will be finalized just three months before the Asian Games will kick off," he said.

"Now the NOC along with National Sports council will foster up its process to finalize the team to leave Guangzhou," he added talking to Xinhua.

The Guangzhou Asian Games will open on November 12, 2010 and close on November 27 and are expected to expect to attract about 14,000 athletes and officials from 45 member NOCs, 6,500 technical officials from international and Asian individual sports organizations, 10,000 members of domestic and international media and more than 2,000 member of the OCA and IOC family.

The Guangzhou Asian Games will have 42 sports, including 28 Olympic sports and 14 non-Olympic sports. The 14 non-Olympic sports reflect the unique character of Asian and the Asian Games will boost the involvement of Asian athletes.

Karate, Taekwondo, Karate and Judo are the strong points of Nepal.
