PRD framework to be expedited

Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao have agreed to forward the implementation of the Outline of the Plan for the Reform & Development of the Pearl River Delta, after a liaison and coordination meeting on Feb 19.

They have formed key co-operation areas - finance, service industry, tourism, innovation and technology, infrastructure, transport and town planning, environmental protection, restructuring and upgrading of enterprises, as well as education and training. They also proposed extending the measures which allow more Mainland residents to visit Hong Kong to other cities in Guangdong province.

Besides, they agreed to push forward eight key projects:

1. Start construction of Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge by the end of 2009.

2. Support the development of Hengqin District.

3. Support the Hong Kong and Macao-invested processing and trading industry in Guangdong in their business chain expansion.

4. Establish a pilot zone for finance system reform

5. Urban planning

6. Innovation circle construction

7. Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong high speed rail construction

8. Zhuhai-Macao Cross-border Cooperation District
