A ceremony was held on December 30th, 2008 to celebrate the 55th anniversary of the establishment of the Guangzhou Urban Planning & Design Survey Research Institute. For the first time, experts unveiled some of the details concerning the Asian Games City under construction.

According to the planning, the Asian Games City would be made up of the Athletes Village, Media Village, Technicians Villages, Logistics Zone, Asian Games Park, Stadiums and six clusters.

In general, construction of the city featured ecological characteristics of Lingnan style which were focused on waterside residence. Therefore, areas for business, recreation and cultural activities shall be perfectly integrated with the rivers and crooks.

In terms of the plans, all the brooks or rivers which would be widened shall separate public areas from Athletes Village for firm management when the Games are being held. In addition, there would be ecological parks, corridors and clusters. All the rivers and brooks in the city shall feature the unique characters of villages in the Pearl River Delta.
