The 87-kilometer rail costing 19.7 billion yuan will be one of the main axles of the Pearl River Delta Region transport network which has been approved by the national State Council. The route will start in Guangzhou, run through Dongguan and the Shenzhen Airport, and extend to the Futian district of Shenzhen city.
A total of 16 stations and platforms will be built along the rail line with an average of five kilometers between each station. Trains will arrive every two and a half minutes and the entire journey will take 60 minutes at a speed of 140 kilometers per hour.
Passengers will not need to buy tickets in advance, and ticket prices will be much lower than the Guangzhou-Shenzhen train.
