The surveillance result recently provided by the environmental protection authorities shows that Guangzhou's air quality in November, had 7 days of excellent quality and 23 days of good quality, reaching a 100% report of excellent and good days. This is the seventh consecutive month for Guangzhou's air quality has reached a 100% excellent and good rating.
However, the principal authority concerned with air quality pointed out that, due to the lag of the State air quality surveillance standards, some new pollutants are not included within the scope of the surveillance criteria. Therefore, there is still a gap between the surveillance results and the public's expectations.
It was learned that, since the increased public use of the new National Standard III Oil, this May, Guangzhou's air quality has maintained a 100% level of excellent and good ratings. Many citizens remarked that Guangzhou is enjoying bluer skies and better air day-after-day. The principal spokesperson with the Guangzhou Environmental Monitoring Center said that the surveillance data showed that Guangzhou's air quality did become better. "There was a fully excellent and good record for several months last year, but never for seven consecutive months".
It was learned that, in 2007, there were 333 excellent and good days in Guangzhou in terms of air quality, accounting for 91.23% of the calendar. And, the air quality this year is much better than that of last year. Take the surveillance data from January to May as an example, Guangzhou recorded 141 excellent and good days, 5 days more than the same period last year.
