More Hong Kong companies will be authorized to sell officially licensed products for the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Games, an official with the games' organizing committee said yesterday (Nov. 5).
"We are in talks with some Hong Kong companies that have shown great interests in selling the licensed products," said Huang Canhui, a market development official from the Guangzhou Asian Games Organizing Committee (GAGOC).
So far, the Panyu Xinde Clothes Making Co, a Hong Kong-invested company, is already an officially licensed clothing producer for the upcoming games, Huang said.
"Besides being producers, Hong Kong companies are encouraged to take part in the market development for the games, which will offer a lot of business opportunities," Huang said.
For example, China Travel Service (Hong Kong) is talking with the GAGOC to become a seller of the officially licensed products.
According to an overall plan for producing and selling the games' licensed products, which was announced by the GAGOC yesterday, more licensed shops will be set up in Hong Kong and Macao within the next two years.
However, more market focus will be placed in Guangzhou and three other co-host cities - Foshan, Dongguan and Shanwei - in heart of the Pearl River Delta region.
According to Fang Da'er, director of the market development department of the GAGOC, there will be 500 to 800 officially licensed shops set up nationwide.
Also yesterday, 23 companies were authorized to manufacture the games' licensed products, and 11 were certified to sell the products.
There will be at least 30 companies from the mainland and overseas that will be selected as officially licensed manufacturers for the games, Fang revealed.
Also, 30 more companies, including those from Hong Kong and Macao, will be selected as official selling partners for the games.
According to Fang, there will be more than 4,000 products developed for the games.
"More products will be available in markets after the two-year countdown leading up to the games, which will be held Nov 12 to 27," Fang said.
