A second donation of quilts and clothes was organized by the Bureau of Civil Affairs of Guangzhou Municipality on October 16th. As a result, 215,502 pieces including quilts and clothing as well as RMB 1.17 million were collected.
Since September 18th, when the municipal government issued the circular on the donation of clothes and quilts for victims in quake-hit Sichuan Province, citizens, government departments, institutions and organizations in Guangzhou have actively participated as donors. Within less than a month, 223 thousand pieces of clothes and quilts as well as RMB 2,017,100 were collected.
Officials of the Bureau of Civil Affairs of Guangzhou Municipality said this donation mainly called for new quilts, blankets and warm clothes to help victims in quake-hit areas spend a more comfortable season in the coming cold winter. So far, the first donations - 27,194 pieces of quilts and clothes worth nearly RMB 6.4 million - have arrived in Weizhou Town of Wenchuan County.
