With the new vessel, "Pearl", a fire boat, coming into operation, fire-fighting facilities on local waterways have improved significantly. Meanwhile, breakthrough achievements have been made in construction of fire-fighting facilities in urban areas as well.

Statistics showed that 15,218 fireplugs have been installed, almost the same number as the projected one in the original estimate. All of these fireplugs work well. Additionally, Guangzhou has sped up construction of fire stations. The number of fire stations is expected to be 60 by the 2010 Asian Games.
