Guangdong trade and economic delegation, led by secretary of Guangdong CPC Committee Wang Yang, signed deals worth聽2.356 billion USD with Vietnamese companies at the Vietnam-Guangdong economic and trade seminar held in Hanoi on September 9.
Most of the projects involve electricity, electronics, construction and food processing.
The seminar, held by Guangdong province in coordination with the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, drew representatives from over 300 Chinese enterprises.
Wang Yang, Guangdong Party chief, said Guangdong would support Vietnamese businesses to invest in processing, transport and telecoms. The province would increase imports from Vietnam and help promote tourism to Vietnam among Guangdong residents.
Vietnam is the second stop of Guangdong鈥檚 Trade Mission鈥檚 ASEAN tour. Guangdong is Vietnam鈥檚 biggest business partner in mainland China.
According to the Guangdong Economic and Trade Cooperation Department, trade turnover between Guangdong and Vietnam reached US$2.45 billion in 2007, an increase of 53 percent over 2006 and nearly one sixth of the total two-way trade between the two countries.聽Guangdong-Vietnam trade saw a boom of 47.4 percent in the first seven month this year.
Vietnamese businesses sell coal, tanned leather, rubber, engine and electronic goods to Guangdong , while buying Guangdong's clothes, steel materials, china, footwear, motorbikes, air conditioners and electrical products.
During the visit, Party Secretary Wang Yang of Guangdong province met with Vietnam Communist Party Secretary-General Nong Duc Manh and Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung respectively. Wang stressed that Guangdong will following Central Government鈥檚 policies and enhance cooperation with Vietnam. Meanwhile, Guangdong is transferring the labor intensive industries out of its PRD region, and the province will encourage some of these industries to consider Vietnam as their new location. Wang also hope Mr. Nong Duc Manh to support the establishment of the Guangdong-Vietnam trade communication mechanism so as to widen the cooperation in energy exploration and other fields. Mr. Nong Duc Manh hoped the both sides can further cooperation in investment, trade and energy.
When meeting with Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, Wang said Guangdong will make effort to enhance the cooperation with Vietnam in coal mine and agriculture and other aspects and hope the bilateral trade will double within three years to exceed 5 billion USD.
