Tropical storm Nuri gained strength as it moved closer to northern Philippines and is expected to bring downpours to the country's western coasts in particular, according to Xinhua news agency.
Nuri was forecast to arrive at South China sea today (Aug 20) and move north east to the East Guangdong region.
The storm will probably hit Guangdong hard and brings downpours to Pearl River mouth and east Guangdong coast.
Guangdong government had a meeting with storm prevention related departments and urged them to better their preparation for this storm, perhaps the most severe storm in this year.
