In an effort to better showcase globally the prowess of Indian goods, The Federation of Indian Export Organisations, the apex trade promotion body, has taken a floor space of 500 sqms at the world famous Canton Fair in China.

FIEO has been appointed as the 'India Agent' for the Canton Fair to be held in October, FIEO sources said. The decisions came after recent meeting between President FIEO Ganesh Kumar Gupta and Zhang Zhijang, Chairman of China Foreign Trade Centre, the organiser of the Canton Fair in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou.

It was a long felt need of Indian enterprises to be able to represent themselves in China at a major platform where they could showcase their products to the buyers from all over the world along with their Chinese counterparts. FIEO has taken space of 500 sqms in the fair which would be rechristened as India Pavilion. Indian companies would be able to participate in India Pavilion. Plans have been made by FIEO to make this a mega event for India's export businesses, sources said.

This year, the Canton Fair would be held for the first time in three phases from October 15 to 19, October 24 to 28 and from November 2 to 6. The bilateral trade between India and China was $25 billion in 2006-07. The FIEO delegation also met Gautam Bambawale, Consul General, Consulate General of India in Guangzhou and discussed the feasibility of opening India Trade Centre with display cum warehouse facility in Guangzhou, the booming capital of Guangdong Province.
