The name list of the Chinese Olympic delegation would be officially announced on July 25th, said Zhang Haifeng, the State Sports General Administration publicity secretary and Chinese Olympic Committee spokesman. So far, according to the lineup of the Olympic Games, the number of athletes from Guangzhou was to achieve a historic breakthrough to exceed 20. In the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, Guangzhou sent a total of only 11 players.

The Guangzhou athletes would participate in 10 events including badminton, weightlifting, gymnastics, fencing, basketball, rowing, softball, baseball and equestrian, involved in far more events than previous Olympic Games, said Guangzhou Municipal Sports Bureau director-general Liu Jiangnan. According to the recent state and the best record, more players were expected to win gold medals, including badminton players Yang Wei and Zhang Jiewen, world champion Xie Xingfang and world gymnastics champion Yang Yilin.
